Piper Study Grant: Desprez's works in park of Haga - page 1/9 09/2000

Piper Study Grant will focus more on the work of Desprez as an architect than as theatre designer. In 1994, the photographer Kristofer Thessman was commissioned by Gilbert Blin to undertake a study of the gardens at Haga focusing on Desprez's architectural works there. What emerged was a stunning set of photographs that have been viewed only privately but which cry out for a wider audience. The object of this project is to provide an accompanying narrative to form the basis of an exhibition and/or possible publication.

A french responsible of the project among the Academy would be required to make a link between that student and Kristopher Thessman and assess the possibility of an exhibition and a publication.

Who was Piper ?

To accompany a photographic work already existing about the work of Desprez in Haga, a documentary research about the exact impact of Desprez on the park is necessary. Piper (1746-1824) is considered as the most famous Swedish landscape architect. His principal work is the park of Haga, designed for Gustav III from 1780 to 1792. Desprez collaborated closely with Piper and a large amount of his architectural works is still visible today.
