The Grant Project - page 4/4

07/2006

Application procedure

Candidates have to join the Académie Desprez as a preleminary to their application.

The candidates have to submit to the commitee six copies of an application file in wich they introduce themselves and give a detailed description of the contents and the plan of their study or realisation project.

Then, they may be invited to present their project to one, several, or possibly all members of the Académie Desprez who might suggest modifications so as to redirect the matter, give it a better relation to the working programmes defined by the Academie Desprez for the current season, and give it a higher profile. Therefore, candidates may be requested to present a restructured file.

The application file is then submitted to the Board of Directors for final approuval.

Grant allocation

The jury consists of the members of the Board of Directors.

The Director of Research and the Head of Studies decide upon the selection of the granted projects. The final decision belongs to the president.

De facto members of the Board of Directors (General Manager and Artistic Director of Drottningholms Slottsteater and Director of Sveriges Teatermuseum) eventually decide upon the projects that require their direct contribution.

Projects naming

The Director of Research names each accepted project with the name of a historical figure closely related to Drottningholm, Gustave III and Desprez, that symbolises the fecundity of Franco-Swedish cultural relationships and moreover represents close links with the contents and the form of the project itself.

Each candidate gets the task of writing a little biographical note upon this figure.

That process mostly aims to:

  • arouse each candidate's interest, whatever his project is, in the especially rich and complex aspect of intellectual and artistic life of that time ;
  • relate the intellectual thought and working processes of the XVIIIth century with those of today ;
  • build the basis of a biographic dictionary upon the Franco-Swedish relationships during Gustave III's reign.

Grant delivering

The Académie Desprez delivers his grant to the laureate once the project is accomplished, that is when receiving a final result (models, essay, art work, etc...) approuved by the Director of Research and the Head of Studies.

A certificate will accompany the payment, to attest that the laureate has received a grant from the Académie Desprez.

The amount of the grants is minor and, thus, cannot be considered as a wage.
